Honda motorcycle racing for Dakar Rally
As quoted from the official website of Honda Motor, the prototype Honda motorcycles racing will be developed and produced by the Motorcycle R & D Center of Honda R & D. The plan motor engine is to take the base CRF450X.
The reason Honda took the CRF450X platform because it combines ease of handling motors with power.
This motor will drive the Portuguese rider, Helder Rodrigues, who is third in the 2012 Dakar rally. Rodrigues will be accompanied by Felipe Zanol, Sam Sunderland and Javier Pizzolito (Argentina).
“Dakar Rally requires tremendous endurance motor to drive hundreds of kilometers per day for over 2 weeks. So totally different kind of motocross motorcycle, trials and road races,” said President of Honda Racing Corporation, Tetsuo Suzuki.
Honda is involved in the Paris Dakar Rally in 1981-1989. During that time, the motor manufacturer’s wings bearing managed to win 5 times.
